Wednesday 7th February 2018
I've been disappointed with the performance of this blog in the last three months, I have found it difficult to balance work, university commitments and study time which has ultimately taken its toll on the profit and loss of the blog. However, I hope to have more time to devote to this over the next few months and hope to get back to the form which saw us finish 2017 with a profit of 99.64 points with ROI of 38.73%.
A trio of selections for Wednesday's all-weather action are online now (Tuesday evening), I may add a couple in the morning dependent on NR's and prices.
15:15 Ludlow - MIDNIGHT TARGET 5/1
1.5 Points Each-Way
NR
16:00 Chelmsford - EXCELLENT GEORGE 7/2
2 Points Win
A small field handicap wouldn't usually be my first port of call for a bet, but Excellent George catches the eye at the early prices. A few of these are stepping up in class off the back of good performances in weaker races, but Stuart Williams' charge has already backed up a win in a lower grade with a good placed effort at this class 4 level on his latest start. The form of that contest looks strong, the winner went on to finish third in a class 2 handicap behind subsequent listed winner Kachy, whilst the second, Eljaddaaf, finished a close second in a class 3 handicap on his next start. The strength of that form was also boosted when the seventh placed horse Sparkalot won on his next start. This Exceed And Excel gelding looks capable of following up his earlier course and distance win off a 4lb higher mark.
18:25 Wolverhampton - EXCHEQUER 7/1
1 Point Each-Way
Right Touch drops back down to the grade in which he finished a close second at Lingfield and could be tough to beat if repeating that performance. Twin Appeal also looks a key contender having performed well on his last two starts, both on the tapeta, including a course and distance win. He had Exchequer in behind on that occasion and I think David O'Meara's gelding has a good chance of turning that form around. Exchequer was denied a clear run at a crucial stage in that day and re-opposes on better terms here. He has run well since that day, finishing placed behind a subsequent winner at Chelmsford last month and he looks a good each-way bet under in form Martin Harley.
20:25 Wolverhampton - POINT NORTH 8/1
1.5 Points Each-Way
Point North has six wins on the tapeta here at Wolverhampton and looks to have solid claims of adding a seventh. He finally showed the benefit of his tumbling handicap mark when he did well to finish as close as he did behind the re-opposing Krystallite and Kyllukey, he was left with far too much to do when turning for home while the front two raced prominently throughout. Dropped a further pound to a mark of 57, he has scored over course and distance off a mark as high as 74 in the past so he is certainly well-handicapped. Lewis Edmunds claims a valuable 3lb off his back and should give him a better chance than last time.
